Local Resources for Bridging the 1890 Census Gap

This presentation will concentrate on Iowa records and resources available for the 1870-1900 time period. IGS’ “General Iowa Collection” will be brought to light, and the State Historical Society of Iowa’s research collection will also be discussed; what can be found at your local public library or museum will also be identified. Information provided in the 1885 and 1895 Iowa State censuses will be formally examined. Church records, “Old Man’s” draft registration cards, county histories, biographical collections, farm directories, atlases and plat maps will be introduced. A topical outline will be provided to all attendees which will identify specific publications and where to find them.
